Balangarra woman Cissy Gore-Birch has been honoured for three decades of work in WA’s Indigenous communities with an Order of Australia Medal in the King’s Birthday awards.

Ms Gore-Birch is the current co-chair of the Indigenous Carbon Industry Network, board member of the Aboriginal Lands Trust, and a director on the East Kimberley football and Kununurra basketball associations in WA.

Also reviving an award recently was medical student, Yawuru Nyul Nyul woman Kahlie Lockyer from the Pilbara.

Ms Lockyer, 35, received the $11,000 scholarship in Canberra from Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly. She said she plans to specialise in paediatrics and hopes to help children in remote Indigenous communities.
