All square in NRL Indigenous clash

March 17, 2025

Honours were even in Sydney as the Maori claimed a gutsy 10-6 All Stars rugby league win over the Indigenous in the men’s clash and the Indigenous women pulled off a late win to defeat their Maori opposition 20-18.

Lailani Montgomery’s last-gasp penalty, after she had legs taken out while attempting a field goal, saw the Indigenous triumph.

In the lowest-scoring men’s game since 2010, tries from Jacob Laban and Jesse Arthars cancelled out Shaquai Mitchell’s four-pointer.

Arthars was the winner of the Preston Campbell medal as the best player on ground.

Cronulla’s Niwhai Puru had a chance to win the game for the Indigenous late on but he dropped the ball as he attempted to ground it over the tryline.
