Allstars wow big crowd at Optus
Representative footy returned to the AFL on Saturday as neatly 38,000 fans rocked up to Perth’s Optus Stadium to see thaw Indigenous All stars beat the Fremantle Dockers.
Indigenous captain Michael Walters said after the game that football was the winner – and how right he was.
It was a comfortable 16-12-108 to 9-11-65 victory but the highlight for so many was the spine-tingling war dance delivered by the Indigenous team before the bounce.
Bobby Hill kicked four goals as Jy Simpkin ran the midfield to earn the All Stars victory.
“It was so fun,” Simpkin said after the game. “I can’t remember enjoying football that much.
“We spent the last couple days together. The connection we’ve built in such a short period of time – it was super exciting, super fun. Even sitting on the bench, just watching the boys run, carry, move the footy was awesome.”
