
Another death in custody in the Territory
Another Indigenous man has died in custody after being prevented from boarding a flight out of Darwin after police claimed he was drunk.
The 68-year-old man was prevented from joining the plane on May 30 after federal officers received reports of him being intoxicated, NT Police said in a statement.
He was taken into custody and driven to the Palmerston Watchhouse, where it was deemed he should be taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital.
On arrival he was initially declared unconscious, resuscitation efforts saw him he regain consciousness and he was moved to intensive care.
The man died in the ICU on Saturday.
‘The cause of the man’s death remains undetermined pending a post mortem (examination),’ NT police said.
