By PETER ROWE
The WA Government has released a Request for Tender seeking a suitable builder for the Perth Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation.
The Perth Aboriginal Short Stay, located in Cannington, will be Western Australia’s fifth bespoke build providing a safe, culturally appropriate, and affordable accommodation solution for Aboriginal people.
It will be able to accommodate up to 100 guests and will be comprised of universal access, family, double and single units.
“Western Australia’s existing Aboriginal Short Stays have been critical in improving outcomes for Aboriginal people in the regions by providing a safe and secure place to stay,” Housing and Homelessness Minister John Carey said.

“We’re now calling for a suitable builder to construct the Perth Short Stay in Cannington, which will be WA’s fifth short-stay facility and will be able to accommodate up to 100 guests.”
Contractors shortlisted from the Department of Communities’ Housing Construction and Refurbishment Builders Panel will be invited to submit a tender for the construction of the Perth Short Stay.
There are currently three other Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodations operating in Kalgoorlie, Derby and Broome. The Geraldton Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation is currently under construction by local Geraldton builder, GBSC Yurra.
“The establishment of new Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation services in Perth and Geraldton will ensure safe, culturally considered short-term accommodation is available to support Aboriginal visitors from regional, remote and metropolitan areas to reduce rough sleeping and overcrowding,” Minister Carey added.
The RFT for the Construction Head Contractor will be open until March 2025 and can be accessed at: https://www.tenders.wa.gov.au/
