Cable-tying man guilty of common assault

March 15, 2025

The man who cable-tied the hands of three young children who were found in his property in Broome in March has been found guilty of two counts of aggravated common assault.

Magistrate Deen Potter found Radelic’s use of force was unreasonable in relation to two of the children, while acquitting him of a third charge after one of the children broke free.

Radelic, 46, pleaded not guilty to three counts of aggravated common assault of using the ties to restrain the children — aged six, six and seven — after discovering them swimming in his pool at a property in Cable Beach on March 5.

The incident made international news.

The magistrate deemed the actions unnecessary force and said the incident had a “marked impact” on the children and their family.

Radelic was fined $2,000, which was suspended for a 12-month period, and was given spent conviction.
