Indigenous campaigner Noel Pearson has joined the board of Andrew Forrest’s mining company Fortescue.
Mr Forrest said Mr Pearson’s appointment as a non-executive director would bring “enormous benefit and insight” to the board.
Mr Pearson’s leadership in Indigenous affairs has seen him found the Cape York Partnership in northern Queensland, the Good to Great Schools Australia and the Cape York Land Council.
The Cape York Partnership promotes the economic and social development of the region and the Good to Great Schools Australia project aims to lift education outcomes for students around the countrty.
“I am honoured to be a member of the Fortescue board and I look forward to making a contribution to this diverse, progressive and successful business,” Mr Pearson said after the appointment was announced.
“Fortescue is a proud Australian company that is led by its values from mine site to the boardroom — something I have great respect for.”
