Community honour for Brad
Brad Beetson described being named as the Queensland Rugby League’s Indigenous Volunteer of the Year as a tremendous honour – but he said it should have gone to his wife Tracey.
“She’s been volunteering at Murri Carnivals, running the canteens, washing jerseys and taking care of the Elders for a long time,” he said.
“I couldn’t do what I do without her help. Belinda and Alicia from the Sunshine Coast Bunyas and Mark and Garth from the Nambour Crushers, deserve a great thanks as well for their work. So too my family, They do so much work with the Murri Carnival.”
Brad, originally from Roma, has been the president of the Bunyas on the Sunshine Coast for 12 years.
Outside of volunteer work, he does community engagement for North Coast Indigenous Health.
A proud Kabi Kabi/Wiradjuri man, Brad’s favourite player is his late father, Arthur Beetson.
