Celebrating the Perth Football Club Aboriginal Team of the Century
Perth Football Club is to host a gala award ceremony next month to announce its inaugural Aboriginal Team of the Century.
The event marks the first time in the WAFL club’s 125-year history that an initiative like this has taken place.
The Aboriginal Team of the Century will celebrate the outstanding achievements of Aboriginal athletes who have served as role models for many generations.
“By honouring the past and inspiring the future, the Aboriginal Team of the Century stands as a proud testament to the achievements of Aboriginal athletes and their mark on our club’s history,” the club stated on its website
“As a club, we are immensely proud of this initiative and all Aboriginal players who have been part of our 125-year journey. Their contributions have enriched our history, and their legacies continue to inspire and uplift our community.”
The team has selected on several key criteria, including significant contributions and impact while playing for the Perth Football Club in the WAFL League, development through the Perth Zone of WA, legacy and influence on the club, the AFL industry, and the wider community, as well as exemplary character, sportsmanship, leadership, and commitment to the Perth Football Club’s values.
The team will be formally announced at the ceremony on August 16 at our club function centre at Lathlain Hall.
