Former West Coast Eagles star David Wirrpanda pleaded guilty in Perth Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to breaching a family violence restraining order last month when he contacted a ‘woman known to him’ by text message.

The text said: “sorry I’ll be in trouble but my love is way too strong, I’ll take it when it comes”, the court was told.

Wirrpanda was fined $700 plus court costs, as the magistrate said the offence was on the lower end of the scale.

The court also granted the Wirrpanda, 45, a spent conviction, taking into account his good character and lack of prior convictions.

Wirrpanda was drafted by the Eagles in 1995 and remains, at 16 years and 268 days old, the club’s youngest debutant. After 227 games for the Eagles, Mr Wirrapanda

He retired in 2009 after 227 games, founded a charity, the Wirrpanda Foundation and in 2009 was awarded the Young West Australian of the Year.
