Former CEO wins unlawful dismissal case
The North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency has reached an agreement with its former CEO Priscilla Atkins, who sued the organisation for unlawful dismissal in 2023.
The Federal Court ruled in favour of Ms Atkins in June last year, stating that the NAAJA was in contravention of the Fair Work Act when it sacked her.
Ms Atkins had earlier lodged a complain of corruption against the NAAJA’s board in 2022.
The long-running dispute saw the NAAJA initially say Ms Atkins had been sacked on a belief she had forged a signature of a former chair, Collen Rosas, approving a pay rise.
The court ruled in Ms Atkins’ favour and stated the decision by the board was taken as a result of an unconstitutional board meeting.
A NAAJA spokesperson confirmed to the ABC the parties had reached a settlement in a statement released on Monday.
