Greens drop censure motion against Senator Cox

A censure motion against WA Senator Dorinda Cox has been dropped by WA Greens after they were told they had no jurisdiction over her office after claims of misconduct were published in a Sydney newspaper.

An email seen by ibnews.com.au has confirmed the WA Representatives Council had withdrawn its censure motion against the Indigenous Senator made on October 4.

Legal advice had informed the council it had “no jurisdiction to inquire into workplace matters”. All allegations against Senator Cox were unfounded.

A spokesperson in Senator Cox’s office said the removal of the censure motion was welcomed.

“The motion relied upon media articles, not complaints to the relevant bodies.” The spokesperson said.

“Currently there are no complaints against Senator Cox. She has always demonstrated her support and co-operation of the independent processes of the parliamentary workplace services and the new IPSC.

“Senator Cox looks forward to her future work in the party and as the Senator for WA.”
