IBA Business pathways event – sign up for free
By PETER ROWE
The IBA has set up a virtual event next month to launch new research into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business.
In partnership with the Australian National University the report outlines insights into the growth of First Nations business sector and identifies where gaps are emerging in the availability of support.
The number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses has more than doubled from 2006 to 2024.
And Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in business is the fastest growing business demographic in Australia.
Women made up 36 per cent of the First Nations business sector in 2021, up from 33 per cent in 2016.
The IBA’s Strong Women Strong Business initiative has planted a part in that growth.
This latest Pathways reports is part of double act, with the housing report released earlier this month.
A panel including Shane Kennelly (Kennelly Constructions), Hanina Rind (Yarn Legal), Michelle Jasper (The Australian National University), and Siddharth Shirodkar (IBA) will discuss the business report, the business realities, and what still needs to be done in a live virtual event on November 7.
Indigenous businesses can sign up for free to be part of the event.
