Immerse yourself in Noongar celebration
By PETER ROWE
Song Circle, The amazing Noongar performance that wowed audiences last year is back and has found a new home in Burswood Park this weekend.
Music, dance and light from singers and instrumentalists as they perform songs in Western Australia’s Noongar language.
Song Circle’s Corroboree is free and begins at 5.30pm daily from today until Sunday, with pauses between each 20-minute performance. No tickets are required.
Kylie Bracknell, one of the creators of Song Circle said it was an opportunity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to experience.
“This vision came to me of bringing our ceremonies back to that circular setting with the modern aspect of having the revolve stage, because I wanted to bring my theatre experience into it,” she told the ABC.
“I had this vision to create this event, a ceremony or corroboree that you could watch from all angles, which ties into the old way and feeds into the new modern way.”
The language is now only spoken by about two per cent of Noongar people.
