Indigenous support sought to help homeless
By PETER ROWE
Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations or registered Aboriginal businesses in WA have been invited to apply to deliver outreach support services for people experiencing homelessness in the Perth metropolitan area.
The outreach service will support highly vulnerable people with complex needs and assist them to transition from homelessness into safe accommodation and housing.
“Co-ordinated outreach services play an essential role in helping people who are experiencing chronic homelessness by connecting them with intensive wrap around support services and safe accommodation or housing,” Housing and Homelessness Minister John Carey said.
“We’re committed to empowering Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and registered Aboriginal businesses to deliver culturally appropriate support services.”
The restricted Expression of Interest process is a part of the government strategy to deliver culturally responsive and secure services that empower Aboriginal people.
The successful respondents will deliver culturally appropriate outreach and intensive support for people who are experiencing chronic rough sleeping and connect them directly with specialist support services.
