Invitation to operate Indigenous businesses on Rottnest Island
The WA government is looking for expressions of interest from Aboriginal businesses to bring new and innovative ideas to the Rottnest Island experience next summer.
Tourism Minister Reece Whitby said investment into island infrastructure and increased accommodation options were driving the island’s economy with high visitation from local, interstate and international visitors and continuing the island’s status as one of Western Australia’s premier holiday destinations.
“Tourism operators and businesses are integral to the visitor economy and generate job opportunities, and we’re looking for experienced business operators to set up shop on this beautiful island,” Tourism Minister Reece Whitby said.
“The unique natural environment of Rottnest Island provides a great opportunity for nature-based tourism operators to showcase the many wonders of the island.”
Last year, new businesses offered visitors cruises on a traditional pearl lugger boat, handcrafted ice cream, guided cycling tours, yoga and wellness, beach safety education and an app for hiking trails.
The 2025 Recreational application outlines two key categories:
- Recreational activities and experiences
- Aboriginal cultural tourism experiences
