Jackjumpers search for Indigenous design artists

March 25, 2025

The Tasmanian JackJumpers are seeking a local Aboriginal artist to create a design for their jersey to be worn as part of NBL’s Indigenous Round in the NBL 25/26 season.

It is hoped that the artwork be reflective or incorporative of Lutruwita/Tasmania, and its Aboriginal culture, people, places or stories, as well as representing something meaningful to Tasmanian Aboriginal people.

The concepts and story-telling of the jersey are at the discretion of the artist, and can tell individual stories or include wider themes.

For example, if the artist connects with the 2025 NAIDOC theme “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy” this could be incorporated into the design.

Or the artist may wish to create a design that focuses on the strength of the Tayta (jack jumper ant in palawa-kani).

Applications are open to anyone who identifies as a Tasmanian Aboriginal person, and can demonstrate the capacity to complete the artwork as described.

Applications are open to artists who have previously worked with the JackJumpers before, as well as those who have not.

The NBL’s 25/26 Indigenous Round aims to acknowledge and celebrate Indigenous artists and culture across the league.

The JackJumpers will participate in this round, using it to highlight and acknowledge the Palawa people (Tasmanian Aboriginal people) of Lutruwita (Tasmania).

Those wishing to apply are invited to submit the following by Thursday 13 February, 2025.
