Job losses after Katherine company closes

March 17, 2025

As many 30 workers have lost their jobs after a Katherine-based Indigenous construction business ceased trading last week.

Jawoyn Contracting, which is owned by the Jawoyn Association Aboriginal Corporation, in the NT, sent an email to staff on January 22 informing them of the closure.

The chief executive of Jawoyn Contracting, John Berto, who was also the CEO of the association, has departed both organisations.

Jawoyn Contracting’s work has included projects at the Royal Australian Air Force Base Tindal in Katherine and housing and civil works for the Northern Territory government.
