Key worker housing boost for Halls Creek
By PETER ROWE
Five new modular homes for Kimberley region Aboriginal health employees have been built in Halls Creek in northwest WA to provide affordable, safe and secure housing for staff.
The homes, which will be used by staff of Yura Yungi Medical Services, where constructed by Murray River North Group as part of an innovative partnership between the State Government and Yura Yungi, owners of the land.
Yura Yungi is an Aboriginal community-controlled health service, providing culturally appropriate preventative public health care and programs to residents of Halls Creek and surrounding communities.
“These five new modular homes were funded through our $200 million North-West Aboriginal Housing Fund, established to create pathways towards social and economic independence and wellbeing for Aboriginal people in WA’s northern regions,” Housing Minister John Carey said.
“More importantly, these homes will provide affordable, safe and secure housing to allow Yura Yungi to attract and retain local Aboriginal workers in Halls Creek.
“Yura Yungi plays a unique and integral role in Halls Creek, empowering the community to take responsibility for safeguarding their health and wellbeing and is a key employer of local Aboriginal people.”
