Man charged with murder in alleged DV incident

A man has been charged with murder following the alleged domestic violence death of a woman in remote Western Australia near Derby on Easter Sunday.

Police were called to an address on Fourth Street in the Mowanjum Aboriginal community near Derby, in the Kimberley, at about 7.45am on Sunday.

A 39-year-old woman was found at the home unresponsive. She was taken to Derby Hospital, where she was later declared deceased.

Police allege the woman was assaulted by a 38-year-old man known to her in a domestic violence incident. The man was found at the scene and arrested.

Police also allege he breached a 72-hour domestic violence order.
