Mundine loses Sydney election bid
Indigenous rights campaigner Warren Mundine has lost his bid to become the Liberal candidate for the Sydney seat of Bradfield, beaten 207 votes to 171 by tech executive Gisele Kapterian.
Ms Kapterian was selected from a three-person race, which also included Sydney cardiologist Michael Feneley.
Mr Mundine congratulated Ms Kapterian on her win. “Congratulations to Gisele and let’s win the seat,” he said.
Deputy Liberal Leader Sussan Ley, who publicly threw her support behind Ms Kapterian, said she was best placed to represent the electorate, but praised Mr Mundine for his work.
“Warren Mundine is an ideological powerhouse in our party and as was demonstrated during the Voice referendum, he is a strong and persuasive communicator,” she said.
