National award for Pilbara aged care organisation

March 16, 2025

A leading provider of community services in the Pilbara has won the rural/remote aged or disability carer of the year at the 2024 National Rural and Remote Health Awards in Canberra.

Yaandina Aged & Community Care has supported the provision of quality ageing and disability services to all members of the Roebourne community since the 1980s.

“I think (the awards) highlight the amazing work that is being done in quite challenging circumstances,” chief executive Emma Dumbrell said.

Yaandina has adapted its delivery of services to include cultural beliefs and cultural protocols.

“Community rely on us to provide them with the opportunity, or right, to age in place and on country,” Ms Dumbrell said.

“Without our services, they would need to relocate to mainstream aged-care services off-country, which is extremely distressing, and people choose not to have the services rather than go, which impacts on their health and wellbeing.”
