No more fracking call from Greens Senator

April 30, 2025

Greens Senator Dorinda Cox has called out ongoing fracking operations in the Northern Territory, demanding an end to the practice.

Recent ABC reports have highlighted hazardous spills that continue to contaminate waterways, and seriously risk cultural heritage and community health. Blatantly ignoring concerned Traditional owners and communities in the Northern Territory.

“I am sick and tired of watching cowboy corporations with zero social license put our water, culture, sacred sites, environment and climate at risk for everyone in these communities,” Senator Cox said.

“The Opposition have already made their position clear – they will just provide a quick turn around like the NT CLP Govt have and let these irresponsible and reckless Texas cowboy wannabe’s set off more carbon bombs in our communities.”

Senator Dorinda Cox wants an end to fracking in the NT.

“What’s the threshold? How many breaches will it take until our waterways, country and land get some protection and when will this Federal Government stop handing these foreign owned corporations our land and water to destroy, contaminate and exploit? Every drop of contaminated toxic water and every degraded sacred site is irreplaceable.”

“Minister Plibersek knows what needs to be done and that’s to not miss the opportunity to call in this project for a review before an election is called.”

Senator Cox that despite evidence of seven new compliance breaches over three quarters, the NT Government continues to grant approvals, not regulate or apply penalties.

“This is even when there is mounting evidence to suggest significant risks to worker safety, environment, public health and climate< Senator Cox said.

“The situation demands urgent and decisive regulatory response, including the immediate application of the water trigger to both Empire and Tamboran’s fracking plans.”
