Landen Smales is a proud Noongar teenager making waves in the world surfing and on the weekend the Noosa-based surfer picked up 10,000 points at the Small Fries event in WA’s southwest.
Part of Surfing Australia National Junior Ranking System, and named after surfing legend Taj Burrow, the event now gives the winners a great start to the season.
“I’m a Ballardong Noongar man and my mob is from around these parts, so it’s epic to be back on country and get the 10,000 points,” Smales told Surfing WA.
Smales, 16, took out the under-q18 boys division over Sol Gruendling from NSW in what experts said were tricky conditions.
And the win added to an impressive haul of trophies for this talented young man who took out the 2023 junior men’s logger divisions and junior longboard titles.
