A WA police officer has been stood down and is under investigation after he was filmed pushing an Aboriginal elder to the ground at a park in Broome earlier this week.

Footage emerged of the policeman speaking to an Indigenous man at Male Oval in Broome on Tuesday afternoon, where after a short exchange of words the officer pushed the man backwards.

The elderly man then tried to get back on his feet and stumbled as the officer got into his vehicle and drove off.

A video, posted to Instagram by an Indigenous woman, has been viewed more than 150,000 times.

‘THIS IS TODAY IN BROOME WA,’ the video stated.

WA Police have said the incident would be ‘thoroughly investigated’ and stated the officer had been ‘stood aside until investigation outcomes are known’.

It is believed the incident occurred after the officer tried to search the man’s bag.
