One year on and still no news

January 21, 2026

WA Police have renewed calls for missing 21-year-old Zane Stevens, who was last seen on the outskirts of Broome in April last year.

The man went missing from Coconut Well, about 20kms north of Broome on April 26.

Broome Detective Senior Sergeant Brian Becktold the ABC it was important to “narrow down” on the 21-year-old’s last known movements.

“Ideally, we want to locate Zane for the comfort and the wellbeing of [his] family,” he said.

“As he’s outstanding, they’re obviously very traumatised by the fact that he hasn’t been located and there’s no sign of him.”

Police have worked through over 100 reports from community members but one year on they are nowhere nearer discovering what happened.

Members of Mr Stevens’s family, inclusion g his grandmother’s Naomi Bobby and Noro Togo, travelled to Broome last week to mark the anniversary, holding a vigil on Cable Beach.

“I want him back home, we want him to be found — that’s all,” Ms Togo said.

In December, the WA government announced a $500,000 reward for any information that led to the location of someone who had been missing for more than 90 days.

Anyone with information about Mr Stevens’s disappearance should contact police.
