Otis to be Children’s Day ambassador
SNAICC has announced that the 2025 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day ambassador will be Otis Hope Carey.
Otis is a proud Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung man, a father of three, an acclaimed artist, and a title-winning former professional surfer. When he’s not painting or parenting, you’ll often find him enjoying one of his great loves — fishing.
Otis attended Kulai Preschool Aboriginal Corporation as a youngster, where his mum, Aunty Julie Carey, continues to lead as Director, championing Aboriginal language and culture.
Kulai Preschool has been a cornerstone of the Garlimbirla community since 1961, delivering culturally strong early education grounded in Gumbaynggirr culture and led by Aboriginal peoples.
The Preschool has supported generations of children to grow up strong in culture, connected to community and ready to thrive.
We are beyond thrilled to have Otis bring his heart, art, story and strength to this year’s Children’s Day, helping us spread the word and celebrate Children’s Day.
The Children’s Day poster was designed by Tovani Cox who is a proud Bunuba, Gija and Karajarri woman from the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The spectacular image showcased on this year’s poster was photographed by Jesse Tyssen on Arrernte Country.
