SA electorate renamed in boundaries redistribution
The state electorate of Frome in South Australia’s mid-north has been renamed Ngadjuri ahead of the next election, after concerns were raised about its namesake, Edward Frome.
Ngadjuri refers to the Ngadjuri people, whose lands cover SA’s mid-north region. Ngadjuri means “we people”.
Edward Frome was involved in acts of retribution against Indigenous people in the 1840s. The then surveyor-general had some involvement in the Maria Massacre in 1840, that saw two Indigenous men hanged.
The seat is currently held by Liberal MP Penny Pratt.
