
Sweet smell of success for Martu leaders
An Aboriginal business in WA has announced a deal to supply sandalwood its to a leading US fragrance company Pura.
A new fragrance line, from ethically and sustainably sourced sandalwood in Western Australia is partnership between Pura, Dutjahn Sandalwood Oils, and the K Farmer Dutjahn Foundation.
The foundation is an Indigenous-led nonprofit founded by Martu leaders and designed to support a healthy future for Martu tribal members across Western Australia.
“We are incredibly proud to partner with Pura to bring the sacred resource of sandalwood to the world.” Clinton Farmer, Chairman of K Farmer Dutjahn Foundation, said.
“For Martu, sandalwood is not just a tree, it’s a symbol of healing, resilience, and connection to our ancestors and the land.
“Together with Pura, we are helping to preserve our cultural heritage and provide tangible benefits to our community for generations to come.”
Pura chief executive Bruno Lima said the new fragrance collection was a tribute to the strength, courage, and deep connection the Martu people have shared with the land for thousands of years.
“We are proud to work alongside Dutjahn Sandalwood Oils and the K Farmer Dutjahn Foundation to create a product that reflects this rich heritage while supporting initiatives that preserve traditional ecosystems and honour the incredible beauty of Martu Culture, Community and Country.”
A percentage of sales from this collection will be donated to K Farmer Dutjahn Foundation in support of their mission and programming.
The art featured across the collection was created by Martu community members during an art workshop on Country led by K Farmer Dutjahn Foundation and funded by Pura.
