Tourism NSW awards nominations called for
The NSW Tourism Association is inviting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tourism businesses to nominate for the 2025 NSW Tourism Awards in the category of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Tourism Experiences by Friday, 27 June 2025.
This category celebrates tourism ventures that deliver authentic, culturally rich experiences, foster a deeper understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture, and traditions, and demonstrate meaningful partnerships with Indigenous majority ownership.
Recognition through the NSW Tourism Awards extends beyond accolades, it honours businesses committed to cultural responsibility, economic development, and sustainable practices that safeguard and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditions.
Natalie Godward, CEO of the NSW Tourism Association, said Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tourism businesses are custodians of culture and storytellers of our land’s history.
“Their work enriches the visitor economy by offering immersive, authentic experiences that educate and inspire both domestic and international travellers. These experiences help to preserve our heritage and support the social and economic wellbeing of Indigenous communities right across NSW,” Ms Godward said.
“These businesses connect visitors with the heart of our First Nations cultures.”
Industry leaders are also championing the importance of recognising Indigenous-led tourism.
“The NSW Tourism Awards provide an important platform to recognise and celebrate the strength of First Nations tourism across the state,” Dwayne Bannon-Harrison, Chair, NSW Aboriginal Tourism Operators Council, said.
“It’s an opportunity to see the knowledge, connection to Country, and cultural leadership of our communities honoured at the highest level.
“We encourage Aboriginal Tourism businesses to put themselves forward and be acknowledged for the important role they play in shaping the visitor economy.”
Desmond Campbell, CEO of Welcome to Country, said Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tourism operators do more than share stories — “they preserve culture, care for Country, and build the capacity of the broader Australian tourism industry through knowledge, sustainability, and cultural integrity.”
Entering the NSW Tourism Awards offers businesses a valuable opportunity to review their operations within a structured framework, benchmark themselves against industry leaders, and enhance their profile in an increasingly competitive market.
The winner from this category advance to the prestigious Australian Tourism Awards, where they can gain national exposure and compete among the country’s best.
The winners of the NSW Awards will be announced at the gala celebration to be held on November 27 in Sydney.
Nominating takes five minutes, and businesses have access to extensive support throughout the submission process – including access to the Entrant Support Program webinars, an online resource hub, entry tips, draft reviews and personalised guidance – all included in the entry fee.
