Two guilty of Cassius Turvey murder

May 24, 2025

Fighting to control her emotions Michelle Turvey described the last three months as “hell” after a jury found Jack Brearley and Brodie Palmer guilty of murdering her son Cassius with a metal pole in Perth in 2022.

“I’d like to thank the 91 witnesses, and may I say most of them were young children that are scarred for life, and they helped my son on the day,” she said outside the court.

“I’d like to thank all of Australia, people that know us, for all of their love and support.”

Cassius was attacked by a group seeking revenge for damage to Brearley’s car, with CCTV and dash-cam footage, including Brearley bragging about the attack, key to the prosecution’s case.

A third man, Mitchell Forth, was found guilty of manslaughter and a fourth accused, Aleesha Gilmore, was acquitted of both murder and manslaughter.

Cassius, 15, died in hospital 10 days after the attack from a head injury during the assault in the suburb of Middle Swan in October 2022.

After a gruelling 12-week trial, the jury took just over three days to make their determination.

“I remember the first day [of the trial] when Brearley was on the stand giving evidence, he walked past me, and I said ‘I believe my son’s truth’,” Ms Turvey told the ABC.

“My body just went numb with relief,” she said after heating the verdict.

“Justice, to me, will never be served because I don’t have my son, and he’s not coming back.”

A sentencing hearing is set for June 26-27.
