Voyage of discovery for Yued people

The Yued people, through their representative body Yued Aboriginal Corporation, and Gravity Discovery Centre have committed to protecting Yued cultural heritage under a Yued Heritage Protection Agreement (YHPA).

Yued (also spelt Juat, Yuat and Juet) is a region inhabited by the Yued people, one of the fourteen groups of Noongar Aboriginal Australians who have lived in the South West corner of Western Australia for approximately 40,000 years.

Under a YHPA, proponents submit their planned Activity Notice which is considered by YAC’s Cultural Advice Committee (CAC). The CAC then provides advice to YAC’s management team on how to best ensure that cultural heritage is identified and protected.

For both Yued and GDC this is just the beginning of building a relationship that will foster sharing knowledge and opportunities.

The two will soon commence negotiating a relationship agreement for an even deeper appreciation of one another and establishing how they will work together in the future.
