Your say in the May 3 election is important
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has officially kicked off the 2025 election campaign, with Australians heading to the polls on Saturday, May 3.
The announcement has set the stage for what many commentators believe will be a bitter contest between Mr Albanese’s incumbent Labor party and the Liberal coalition led by Opposition leader Peter Dutton.
The cost of living crisis will be centre stage throughout the five-week campaign, but what does it mean for First Nations people?
Both sides of politics have long criticised each other for the failures of Closing the Gap, yet neither side seems to have an answer.
So, who will you vote for on May 3? Or will you even vote?
Are you registered to vote?
The Australian Election Commission will be urging everyone to register – and then vote.
Early voting will begin on April 22, postal votes will come on April 30 and election day, May 3, will see the nation go to the polls.
150 seats will be contested in the lower house (the seat f North Sydney has been abolished) with margins either way from two per cent to as high as 22 per cent in a seat in Queensland.
Over the next five weeks ibnews.com.au will offer a non-biased view on the election, attempt to offer all parties an opportunity to state their case and leave it to you – the voter – to make your choice. That is democracy.
If you want to register or are looking for information about your electorate and who maybe to vote for, go to acc.gov.au for all the details.
