First Nations TV series starts production
Cameras have started rolling for First Nations television series Reckless being filmed in Perth and Fremantle.
The new Australian work is written byStuart Page and Western Australian First Nations creative Kodie Bedford. Bedford is also executive producing the series with Kylie Washington.
Directed by Beck Cole and produced by Andy Walker, Reckless co-executive producers are Megan Palinkas and Beck Cole, with Fiona McConaghy serving as co-producer.
The new four-part drama series production is the second BBC Studios Productions Australia television series to be filmed in WA, following the filming of a local adaption of the critically acclaimed British sitcom Ghosts.
Reckless explores contemporary themes of culture, family, race and class through the interpersonal dynamics between lead characters, Indigenous siblings June and Charlie.
Funded through WA Production Attraction Incentive, the production is expected to deliver significant employment opportunities for the State and return an estimated $5.4 million to the WA economy.
The 4 x 60-minute series will be aired on NITV, SBS and SBS on Demand and distributed to a global audience.
“It is anticipated that Reckless will provide up to 17 weeks of employment in WA, creating 250 WA crew roles, including up to 20 WA cast speaking roles and up to 175 extras,” Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk said.
